Intensive care unit (ICU)
Most patients in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) are post-open-heart surgery patients. They are typically in a state of medical anesthesia or general anesthesia and are placed under respiratory support using a ventilator. The ICU, also known as the Critical Care Unit (CCU), is a specialized department in the hospital that provides specialized medical care to critically ill patients. The medical staff in this unit consists of trained professionals such as critical care physicians and critical care nurses. Patients admitted to the ICU are usually suffering from life-threatening conditions and illnesses such as acute respiratory distress syndrome, septic shock, and post-major and high-risk surgeries.
In the ICU, patients are continuously monitored and treatments are administered using invasive and semi-invasive methods. Invasive methods involve direct stimulation techniques such as measuring blood pressure inside blood vessels or the skull and stimulating respiration through the airway using a ventilator. Critical care medications are often prescribed to patients in the ICU. The Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), also referred to as the ICU, is located within the ICU and offers hope for patients. It is situated on the second floor, across from the open-heart surgery operating room at Musa bin Jafar Hospital, where procedures such as coronary artery bypass graft surgery, heart valve repair, brain and spine surgeries, and others are performed.
The majority of patients admitted to this unit are post-open-heart surgery patients. They are in a state of medical anesthesia or general anesthesia and are placed under respiratory support using artificial lung ventilation.
