Hysterectomy (uterus removal)

Hysterectomy (uterus removal)

Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus):

Removing the uterus from the womb has no effect on your sexual relations. It is better to share all your concerns with your physician before the surgery to find an answer to your questions and reduce your level of stress. You must know that there is no need to worry about losing your femininity. You can return to your normal and daily life after a short rest.

Post-operative Care:

Diet: patients are not allowed to eat and drink on the first day. However, they can start drinking liquids (tea, fruit juice, and compote juice) from the second day if permitted by the physician. Solid foods can be started if tolerated.

Activity:

Initiating walking at the right time and getting out of the bed is very effective in reducing respiratory diseases. You should start walking on the second day after your physician’s permission.

Wound Care:

Usually, the wound is covered with a sterile band for the first 24 hours. The next day, remove the bandage and keep the wound clean with water and soap daily.

Care for after Discharge:

-Avoid heavy activities for two weeks after the surgery.

-Avoid sex for six weeks after the operation.

-Avoid lifting heavy objects for six weeks after the surgery.

-It is suggested to take a shower every day.

-Try to have a proper diet.

-Avoid straining during bowel movement and urination.

-Consume sufficient amounts of vegetables, fruits, and olive oil to prevent constipation.

-Visit a physician in case of severe bleeding or fever.

-Determine your next visit with the attending physician during discharge and receive your prescription.

-Refer to the clinic or a physician’s office to remove sutures seven days after the surgery.
