Lumbar disc surgery

Lumbar disc surgery

Each person normally has 4 lumbar discs. If for some reason the disc is protruding or herniated from its posterior part, this protrudes over the spinal cord or its strings, causing pain in the lumbar region and spreading. To the legs.

People call this lumbar disc disease the correct term is lumbar disc herniation. This disease is also called sciatica. Disc herniation in the lumbar region causes pain in the lumbar, hip, back or front thighs. If the pressure on the spinal cord is too high, the patient will experience symptoms such as pain, numbness, numbness, aching, numbness, cold or warmth, or recurrent muscle weakness. A patient with a lumbar disc can not bend easily and, when bent, feels that the vein is stretching behind his knee.

The patient's pain is exacerbated by a cough.

Sometimes patients only complain of bumps or weakness or pain in their ankle or toes and their back has no pain at all. It is very difficult for most of them to admit that their problems are due to lumbar disease.

What are the treatments for herniated discs?

Surgery should be performed promptly in severe cases where the disc is large in size and causes paralysis of the lower extremities and with incontinence in urinary excretion. Surgery should also be performed immediately in cases of slight paralysis with disc herniation but the rate of paralysis is gradually increasing. In other cases, the patient is usually advised to rest for a week to ten days.

During this time, the patient should avoid sitting as far as possible, avoiding bending and straightening and lifting heavy objects while driving. The patient is usually prescribed painkillers during this period. Most patients receive significant improvement over this ten-day period. After ten to fourteen days from the onset of the disease, specific exercises may be prescribed for the patient, such as water therapy and walking in the shallow part of the water, as well as stretching exercises for the abdominal and lumbar muscles. Physiotherapy can also be used at this stage.

Better prevention than treatment

Reduce exercise, lose weight, avoid lifting heavy objects and pushing objects such as cars or lifting lumbar discs.

Exercise should be gentle daily so that our body is always in perfect shape and the muscles maintain their normal shape and the bones do not become osteoporotic. If 4 to 6 weeks pass through treatment with lumbar disc herniation and the patient continues to feel severe pain, especially in the legs, or mild paralysis, but there is persistence in the lower extremity, the patient may not perform his or her daily activities well. Surgery is recommended.

What are the consequences of not getting lumbar disc treatment on time?

Lack of timely treatment may cause urinary and bladder problems  and cause more anal sphincter problems and the patient cannot maintain his urine and stool.

These problems in men cause impotence. Because of this we also need to have proper nutrition.

)Proper nutrition does not mean eating much, but eating properly(.

Be sure to include fruits, vegetables and dairy products in your meal. Sufficient exposure to sunlight. Sit properly or sleep or walk. For example, sit behind a desk or chair while studying, and if you want to watch television, don't sit or lean or read in bed. Observing these causes pressure to be applied to various discs, such as the lumbar disc, neck disc and other parts.
